The Employee Rights Advocacy Institute For Law & Policy (The Institute) is very pleased to present our 2010 Annual Report. Since NELA founded The Institute in 2008, The Institute truly has become NELA's indispensible partner in realizing our shared vision of the future for all of our nation's workers.
The 2010 Annual Report highlights the major leaps forward The Institute has made as a strong, vibrant organization that is well positioned to carry out our mission to advance equality and justice in the American workplace. Our work is made possible by the growing network of individuals, law firms, foundations, and coalition partners that share our unwavering commitment to employee rights. The Board and staff of The Institute extend our gratitude to our volunteers, donors, and other supporters for their generosity.
As you will read in the Annual Report, beginning with the appointment of The Institute's first Paul H. Tobias Attorney Fellow in January 2010, last year saw a significant expansion in The Institute's programmatic activities. For example, the Paul H. Tobias Attorney Fellowship Program enabled us to implement our core substantive initiative, the National Litigation Strategy Project (NLSP). In 2010, the NLSP Task Force developed (1) a summary judgment survey that was administered to NELA members in April 2010; (2) the "Summary Judgment Toolkit"; (3) a two-part webinar, co-hosted with NELA, on defeating summary judgment in employment litigation; and (4) a symposium on access to the courts and employment cases, with The Institute will be co-sponsoring with New York Law School in April 2012. The Annual Report also documents The Institute's work on eliminating forced arbitration of employment disputes and the inspiring results of The Employee Rights Advocacy Scholarship Program.
